Devlog - #4 Furniture 1/% ⬇️

I started making furniture. I want the furniture to feel modern and simple, but not too much.

At the same time, most of the furniture will be wooden and there will be a mix of white plastic/metal and black.

I found that these combinations together with the surroundings and the orange lighting look very nice and atmospheric.

At the same time, what I show here is about 1/20 of all the furniture that will be in the game, so there is still a lot waiting for me. No less, I will inform you about all this :Dd

I started making blockouts of different rooms to see how well they would look when finished. So far, I’ve done about half of all the rooms in the house.

The total number of rooms will be around 20-24. It is quite a big house. None the less, I tried to make everything so that it makes sense and the player can go through the map in a meaningful way, but I will explain all that to you in future posts

Devlog #2 - Carpets

I’m adding carpets to my game. And since I didn’t want to have plain carpets with baked-in normals and texture in my game, I decided to use Shell Texture Shader. To achieve greater realism and detail.

What is it and how does it work? And how is it possible to use it in game without reducing performance?

Shell texturing is a technique that simulates complex surfaces such as fur or grass by stacking multiple transparent layers of textures on an object. Together, these layers create the impression of depth and detail without having to model every fiber or stem.

So basically it’s just something like an optical illusion with a very good result and a lot of optimization for games.
